This comprehensive two-day qualification is designed for outdoor professionals and employees who work in rural or remote environments including Forest Schools, It will enable learners to undertake the role of the First Aider when emergency medical assistance could be more than 30 minutes away.
It will provide learners with the skills and knowledge to respond to a range of emergency outdoor situations including when and how to move a casualty, major illnesses and injuries, administering CPR (Adult & Children) and managing an unresponsive casualty.

This course is delivered in an our Indoor classroom and outdoor training area, please dress appropriately for the learning environment. Lunch is provided and delivered on site.

Description

Level 3 Outdoor First Aid : 2-day course

If your assessment of First Aid needs highlights the need for qualified First Aiders in outdoor activity including Forest Schools, then this Level 3 qualification will provide you with suitable and highly trained personnel.

This comprehensive two-day course covers a wide range of First Aid emergencies, enabling all participants to deal with emergency situations with confidence in a prompt, safe and effective way, particularly where professional medical help is not immediately available.

This course fulfils the requirements of the First Aid element of the expedition syllabus and it is suitable for the Bronze, Silver and Gold Duke of Edinburgh awards.

There is sufficient content in this course to satisfy the requirements of the HSE in respect of Emergency First Aid at Work. An additional certificate can be provided to evidence this to an employer.

Location

The course is delivered in our classroom on the Rudding Estate, we also use the outdoor area there.

Duration

A minimum of 16 hours spread over at least two days. Ideally, the course should be run over two consecutive days. This course is an outdoor course therefore suitable clothing and equipment is needed for the learning environment. All our scheduled courses come with lunch and refreshments.

  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty, Including Paediatric

  • Shock (including Anaphylaxis)

  • Poisoning
  • Chest injuries
  • Abdominal injuries
  • Sprains and strains
  • Burns and scalds

Certification

Summative practical assessment is ongoing by the instructor each day, along with a written assessment on each day.  A three year Level 3 Award in Outdoor First Aid will be issued to the learner, subject to successful assessment. No external assessors are required. A range of methods are used, including, practical and questioning (open and multiple-choice).
