Level 3 Award in Forestry First Aid qualification has been designed to provide the knowledge and competence for a learner to deal with emergency first aid situations in a forestry/agricultural environment. The FAA Level 3 Award in Forestry First Aid (EFAW+F), is designed to cover the Emergency First Aid at Work qualification and the Forestry criteria to enable a learner to meet the requirements of the Forestry Commission First Aid at Work Policy.

Description

Level 3 Award in Forestry First Aid EFAW+F. People, wherever they work or recreate, can suffer injury or be taken ill. It is essential that a reasonable level of first aid provision is in place so that they can be given appropriate attention and an ambulance can be called if needed. Proper first aid provision can save lives and prevent minor injuries becoming major issues.

Level 3 Award in Forestry First Aid provides you with the legal background to first aid provision at work (for staff, contractors, volunteers and some 3rd parties) and outlines further information that will assist you with delivering the essential requirements. Contractors, hauliers and others wishing to work on Forest Services or Forestry England land will need to show that they
comply with the requirements set out in this PPG.

Visitors may expect Forest Services and Forestry England to provide some level of first aid and in some situations we will have a duty of care. This guide provides you with a background to that and signposts further information that will assist you with delivering the essential requirements.
This guidance should be read alongside FISA802 (Emergency Planning) and PPG17
(Emergency Planning).

Duration

Level 3 Award in Forestry First Aid is minimum of 7 contact hours in the classroom, consisting of practical and theoretical activities, plus some pre-course activity could be required. All our scheduled courses come with lunch and refreshments and full colour manual.

Syllabus

A range of subjects are covered including:

  • responsibilities and reporting
  • resuscitation
  • burns
  • Choking
  • Dealing with an unresponsive casualty
  • Minor injuries
  • Shock
  • Emergency planning and remote medical assistance
  •  Catastrophic bleeding
  • Crush injuries
  • Effects of extreme cold
  •  Lyme disease

Certification

The qualification is valid for three years from the date of achievement. It is recommended that the learner attends annual refresher training.
The learner will need to complete the full course again to requalify for a further three years. It should be noted that if the qualification expires
a person is no longer considered competent to act as a First Aider in the workplace.

It is prudent to arrange requalification before expiry to ensure that a workplace is not left with a shortfall of qualified First Aiders. the HSE strongly recommend that all students undergo an annual refresher programme of three hours, to keep there skill and knowledge up to date.
